About IT Architecture Management at the SILA CLUB Autumn Meeting
On October 2, the autumn meeting of SILA CLUB – a community of professionals in process management, corporate architecture, and digital transformation – took place. Club members regularly gather to discuss business processes and related topics, and this time the central theme of the discussion was "IT Architecture Management."
IT Architecture Management is the process of designing, implementing, and maintaining the structure of information technologies within an organization. It involves defining and documenting the components of IT architecture and their interrelationships. The primary goal is to ensure that the IT landscape aligns with the strategic business objectives, supports system compatibility and integration, minimizes risks, and optimizes the use of IT resources.
Viktor Orlov, an expert from SILA Union, presented the capabilities of designing and managing a company’s IT architecture using SILA Union software. SILA Union enables the construction of a company’s business architecture with a top-down decomposition of information and allows for managing it in relation to the business processes and IT systems involved in their execution. The system offers capabilities for modeling IT architecture and IT strategy, with the primary goal of SILA Union being to create a comprehensive view of the company's IT landscape from various perspectives, ensuring that any changes to IT architecture components are accurately reflected.
The participants also discussed how to model project architectures and explored the capabilities of the SILA Union system for supporting software development. This includes describing the IT landscape, systems, components, and their interactions, preparing documentation, analyzing requirements, monitoring system performance, and managing changes. SILA Union helps track all data related to information systems and their interdependencies to better understand relationships.
The meeting continued with presentations from representatives of MIREA – Anton Nikolaevich Mironov, curator of the educational program "Information Technology Infrastructure," and Anna Dmitrievna Lagunova, head of the Department of Digital Transformation. In their report, the experts highlighted how IT technologies are evolving and how an architectural approach supports this IT transformation.
Colleagues from MIREA presented two examples of established IT solution architectures in SILA Union software to demonstrate the architecture of processes, the information systems that support various operations, how they are interconnected, and who the responsible executors are. The first example showcased a traditional, historically developed architecture, while the second illustrated the use of an architectural approach. The architectural approach allows for comprehensive utilization of modeling tools and IT architecture management based on best practices. Customers gain a transparent business model in the form of a digital twin, displaying all costs and available resources, a clear understanding of the IT architecture components and their roles, alignment with company objectives, and the ability to optimize based on existing technologies.
We would like to thank all participants for their engagement, questions, and discussions. The event recap video is now available on the SILA Union RuTube channel – follow the link to watch it.
We look forward to welcoming you at the next SILA CLUB event on December 19!
